Whitmore Park Primary School Bobby

Our Curriculum

At Whitmore Park Primary School we offer a broad and balanced curriculum which builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills of all pupils, whatever their starting points, as they progress through each Key Stage We aim to promote a sense of purpose, motivation, enjoyment, enthusiasm, confidence, independence and success through learning. Our curriculum is designed to incorporate the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum 2014, and other experiences and opportunities which best meet the learning and personal developmental needs of the pupils in our school.

We are determined that our pupils will achieve high standards in all areas of the curriculum. We place a strong emphasis on developing the core key skills within English, Maths and vocabulary development, providing opportunities to apply them across the curriculum. Our Science and Humanities lessons are enriched with trips and visitors to provide first hand learning experiences for our pupils. Our curriculum is designed so that pupils can make learning links across subjects. We value the expertise our specialist teachers provide to deliver high quality teaching and learning in PE, Music, Art and Computing lessons.

The curriculum is underpinned by the school’s Golden Values (Honesty, Kindness, Respect, Community and Growth) these are taught on their own and through other areas of the curriculum, including assemblies. The spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our pupils and their understanding of the core values of our society are woven through the curriculum in addition to our PHSE curriculum.

Developing our pupils’ independence and motivation as unique learners and their sense of responsibility as future citizens is at the heart of all our teaching and learning.

Growth Mindset at Whitmore Park Primary

Having been introduced to the concept of growth mindset, our pupils have participated in a range of activities to learn more about it and try to display a growth mindset in school (and at home). Pupils are taught how their brains work and how new connections are formed when we try new things and practice them, over and over. Pupils have learnt about famous and influential people who have succeeded due to having a growth mindset and not giving up on their goal. We have PSHE lessons and assemblies about growth mindset, but most importantly, teachers and pupils have embraced the language and the way of thinking that promotes using a growth mindset in all lessons.

Extra-Curricular Opportunities

Our pupils are offered a large range of extra-curricular activities including: Sport, Dance, Art, Music, Computing and Gym. We aim to achieve excellence in our sporting activities entering many sport competitions and tournaments. Our specialist PE teachers deliver the PE curriculum in school and a wide range of after school and Saturday morning clubs for example: athletics, rugby, football, netball, dodgeball and cricket.
