There are three Year 2 classes and each class has a full time teaching assistant. During their time in Year 2, we encourage the children to become more independent and strive to do their very best.
Every morning, the children have a Literacy and Numeracy lesson. They are taught phonics and reading comprehension four times a week. The scheme that we use is called ‘Read Write Inc.’.
We believe that learning to read is one of the most important things your child does at school. Children read individually at least once a week at school. We expect parents to hear their children read a minimum of 4 times a week for at least 5 minutes. Our goal is for all children to be independent readers and have a real love of reading by the time they leave Year 2.
Letters that have been circulated to parents are available for you to view and download here.

On a carousel day pupils will spend the afternoon doing art, PE and music. Each class also has an additional class PE slot every other half term. The class teacher will inform you of this. On these days please send children to school in a PE kit. Children will be asked to tie long hair back and remove all jewellery for PE lessons.

Parents will be informed about details of any school trips throughout the year.
Each Friday we send home a piece of literacy homework, number bond and times table targets to practise and spellings to learn. We ask for the homework folders to be returned to school by the following Wednesday. Children will be tested each Wednesday on their Maths target and spellings.
The following are the curriculum letters sent to all parents which detail the subject areas that are covered.

Children are provided with a piece of fruit each breaktime, therefore they do not need to bring in a snack.
We ask parents to provide a water bottle, filled with fresh water each day so that children have access to a drink.
If you would like your child to have milk, it is available at a small cost. More details are available from the admin office.
Reading book and diary
Please do not send toys to school as children get very upset if they are lost.
Dinner money and money for trips should be in a sealed envelope with the amount, child’s name and class on the front.
If someone else is collecting your child on a particular day or if you have a problem that may affect your child’s school day - please tell us first thing in the morning.
If you wish to talk to us about something that requires a longer conversation - please make an appointment to see us after school.
